Changes to visitor rules and youth mobility scheme (from 31.01.2024)

The Youth Mobility Scheme has announced important updates, extending its reach and flexibility. As of January 31, 2024, the scheme proudly welcomes citizens of Uruguay, enhancing the cultural and experiential exchange between nations. Additionally, the scheme has evolved to offer more opportunities for Japanese and South Korean citizens, reflecting the following key changes:

  • Eligibility for Uruguayans: Citizens of Uruguay can now look forward to participating in the scheme. Uruguay’s inclusion in the scheme comes with an allocation of 500 places.
  • Increased age limit for South Koreans: The age ceiling for South Korean applicants has been elevated from 30 to 35 years, opening doors for a wider age group to experience international mobility.
  • Invitation-free applications for Japanese and South Korean nationals
  • More slots for Japanese and South Korean participants: The number of available places for Japanese citizens has risen to 6,000, while South Korean citizens have 5,000 spots to vie for.
