New Rules for International Students in the UK 2024

Beginning January 1, 2024, a significant change will affect international students in the UK. Those enrolled in academic courses will not be permitted to bring family members (dependants) such as a spouse, civil partner, or children to the UK under their student visa.

This restriction, however, does not apply to students in research-based postgraduate programs.

For existing dependents in the UK, there’s an important exception: If the primary visa holder (your spouse or parent) commenced their studies before January 1, 2024, you can continue to renew your dependent visa as long as their visa remains active. This new regulation concerning dependents on student visas is only relevant for academic courses starting on or after January 1, 2024.
