Significant Hike in UK Immigration Health Surcharge Scheduled for Early 2024

In a recent development, the UK government has announced a substantial increase in the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). This surcharge is a mandatory fee for non-EU nationals seeking to live in the UK for more than six months. The purpose of the IHS is to contribute to the National Health Service (NHS).

From January 31, 2024, individuals applying for UK visas will see a noticeable rise in the IHS fees. For adults, the surcharge is set to jump from the current rate of £624 to an elevated rate of £1,035 per annum. Similarly, a significant increase is also in store for younger applicants, including those under 18, students, and participants in the Youth Mobility Scheme. For these categories, the annual fee will rise from £470 to £776.

This marks a significant 66% increase in the charges, representing a notable financial consideration for prospective immigrants planning to be in the UK.
